A EUROPEAN SUBJECT PLATE OF A LION HUNT
CIRCA 1740
Finely enameled with a scene of six huntsmen and two hounds attacking a lion, most of the animal's body obscured by dust and gun smoke, a man in a red cape looking on from a portico, a fortress in the background, the gilt foliate border between further key-pattern and iron-red 'jeweled' bands and punctuated by alternating cartouches of puce landscapes and birds or squirrels
