Lot Essay

The Etruscan-black armchair with spindle-turned 'bamboo' frame epitomises the Chinese manner popularised around 1800 by George, Prince of Wales, later King George IV at his marine Pavilion at Brighton. Related chairs, with triple-cluster splats, were sold from the collection of the late Dr. Dallas Pratt at Christie's London, 16 March 1995, lot 188.
