A chair in a private collection with nearly identical volute carving on the crest rail and handholds as well as matching turnings on the legs and arm supports is described as a "masterpiece of its period and of its type" by Charles Santore (Charles Santore, The Windsor Style in America, vol. 2 (Philadelphia, 1987), fig. 16, p. 52).
