Engraved
by Michel Lasne (1590-1667), with the inscription Sim. Vouet pinx and Masne f; this is described by Crelly as undated, but at least one print bears the additional inscriptions below the plate 'DILECTVS MEVS QVI PASCITUR INTER LILIA' Cant 2, Simon Vouet pinxit, and Cu. priuileg.Regis Christ. 1638

Lot Essay

A preparatory drawing for the upper half of the Virgin is in the Statens Museum fur Kunst, Copenhagen (Brejon de Lavergnée, op. cit., no. XCVII, illustrated). Another version of the painting in the Musée de Nîmes, is described by Mme. Brejon de Lavergnée as 'de moyen qualité'.
