The Penitent Magdalene

We are grateful to Dr. Karine Wolfe for confirming the attribution of the painting to Trevisani after physical inspection (verbal communication, 11 July 2008). Doctor Wolfe notes that Trevisani painted several versions of the Magdalene and a date of circa 1727 is plausible for this composition given a dated variant sold at Christie's, London, 20 February 1981, lot 90. She will include the present lot in her forthcoming monograph on Francesco Trevisani.
