A LARGE PANEL OF LEMON-YELLOW SILK, PROBABLY DRESS ROBINGS
18TH CENTURY
made up as a bed cover, delicately embroidered in floral swags and sprigs, and applied with pinked ruching, ochre braid, and silk fringe, backed in matching lemon yellow fine wool
60 x 72in. (152 x 184cm.)

Specialist note

This unusual cover exhibits decoration in a style more common to the open robes of the late 18th century than to domestic furnishings. In addition, evidence of old seam lines and hem creases points to a previous life as a very elegant gown.

Another example is held by the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York.
