Lot Essay

The original has not been traced. The Brunswick born artist is recorded in G.K. Nagler, Neues Allgemeines Künstler-Lexicon, 1846, XVI, p.94. After his training in Munich he travelled in Italy, where he copied several paintings after Raphael.
