Lot Essay

The original, signed and dated 1662 and later 1661, 191.5 x 279 cm, is in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, on loan from the city of Amsterdam since 1808. The sitters are to be identified as Jacob van Loon (1595-1674), Volckert Jansz. (circa 1605-1681), Willem van Doeyenburg (circa 1616-1687), the servant Frans Hendricksz. Bel (1629-1701), Aernout van der Mye (circa 1625-1681) and Jochem de Neve (1629-1681) (P.J.J. van Thiel, All the Paintings of the Rijksmuseum, 1976, p.472, noC6, with ill.).
