Portrait of William Cookson (d.1743), bust-length, in a purple silk wrap with inscription and date 'Fs.Meheu/1764' (on the reverse) and with identifying inscription 'William Cookson/(brother of J.C.Vicar/of Leeds) born 1669/married Susannah Idle/in 1701, and was presented/on that occasion with/the (?) bowl/by his Father William.../settle in Leeds/from Settle' (on an old label on the stretcher)
