The artist's subject is an immortal riding a crane, and musical notations. Jin Youngsun is a professor in the College of Art and Design of Korea University. In 2000 she was a visiting professor at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London, and Artist-in-Residence at the East-West Center, Honolulu, in 1989. After receiving her MFA from Pratt Institute in 1973, Jin served on the faculties of Kookmin University, Universidad de Chile and as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at New York University in 1986-87. She has also studied at the Royal College of Art, London, and at International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), Rome. She has held solo exhibitions at the American Cultural Center Gallery, Seoul, in 1979, the Casa de la Cultura, Santiago, in 1983, and at the Space Gallery, Seoul, in 1985. For the Haeinsa Museum in 1999-2000 Jin created the immense fresco mural Enlightenment to accompany the video installation Haeinsa Fantasy by Nam June Paik. Other fresco murals are in Honolulu, Seoul and London.

In the catalogue for her exhibition "Channeling Time" at the Lethaby Gallery, Jin relates her aim to make fresco "express volume, become an installation, and provide the context for performance." For the grounds of her frescoes she has developed a material lighter than traditional plaster to make her works transportable, "replacing the wall with the movable flat surface."
