A VERY RARE STAINED BONE SCABBARD APPLIQUE
EARLY EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, CIRCA 8TH CENTURY BC
The long tongue-shaped, convex applique carved at one end with a compressed taotie mask, the remainder with a narrow median strip bisected by a thread-like groove and outlined by a narrow shallow groove, the flange projecting from the sides pierced with pairs of holes for attachment, the polished surface with a mottled pale green and olive-brown patina, the concave reverse left plain and unpolished
