FOUR JADE SWORD FITTINGS
LATE EASTERN ZHOU/WESTERN HAN DYNASTY, 3RD-2ND CENTURY BC
Including two chapes of trapezoidal outline and lenticular section, the sides well carved with angular scrolls, the larger of pale greenish-white color with some areas of opaque, buff alteration, the smaller of white and brown color with scrolls also carved on top; a sword guard, of lozenge shape carved in low relief on both sides with a taotie mask, the semi-translucent stone of white color; and a circular pommel, carved on top with a whorl motif surrounded by comma spirals, the underside beveled around a circular channel, the semi-translucent stone of white color with areas of opaque, buff alteration, with fine high polish
