PROPERTY FROM A NORTH AMERICAN CHINESE FAMILY COLLECTION, FORMED DURING THE LATE QING DYNASTY (Lots 550-579, 597, 620 and 622) Christie's is pleased to offer lots 550 - 579, part of a collection of works of art belonging to a North American Chinese family, formed by the grandfather of the present owners in Guangdong, circa 1890-1920s. Leading an industrious life, he passed the civil service examinations in 1882 and was appointed an official of the third rank, after which he worked in southeastern China for the majority of his life in various capacities, including that of a government-appointed financial counselor, a general manager of an electrical company and dean of a medical school. He passed away in 1927 at the age of 65, leaving his collection to surviving members of his family. Primarily comprising a diverse selection of Qing mark and period porcelain, the highlights of this fine group consist of lot 560, a rare and important Yongzheng period fluted doucai zun identical to that preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing, and lot 554, a fine and rare Yongzheng mark and period doucai chicken cup. Also featured from this prominent collection is lot 555, a pale blue-glazed early Ming dynasty numbered Junyao zhadou and fine 18th century jades and Qianlong mark and period glass.

KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARKS IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN DOUBLE CIRCLES AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
Each with shallow rounded sides rising to a slightly everted rim, the center incised with a dragon reaching for a flaming pearl as it leaps amidst clouds and flames, the design repeated as a frieze on the exterior, all under a glaze of lemon-yellow color
