AN UNUSUAL CELADON-GROUND FAMILLE VERTE BOWL AND COVER
KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARKS IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
The bowl with deep flaring sides painted on the exterior with a leafy stem of red Chinese lantern plant, bearing one flower and a few iron-red 'lanterns' (husks), one shown open to expose the iron-red fruit within, with further lanterns and fruit on the reverse, the domed cover similarly decorated below the circular handle, all reserved on a celadon ground below a brown-dressed rim, with a small stylized flower head in underglaze blue in the center of the interior of the bowl and cover
4 5/8 in. (11.8 cm.) diam.

Provenance

Acquired by the grandfather of the present owners, Whampoa, Guangdong, circa 1890 - 1920s, thence by descent within the family.
