Seated on a lotus over a throne supported by two snow lions before a blue and orange aureole radiating clouds, holding the stems of two lotuses, one bearing a book and the other a flaming sword, wearing a lotus hat and orange, red, and yellow robes, surrounded by further Bon figures in a green landscape with rocky caves

Lot Essay

Lama Nyamme Sherab Gyaltsen (1356-1415) founded Menri monastery, Tibet's principal Bon monastery, in 1405. Compare with an example of the same subject in the Rubin Museum of Art, acc. no. F1996.22.5.
