A JAPANESE SUIT OF ARMOUR WITH HELMET
EDO PERIOD, (LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY)
Formed from two armours and an associated helmet, with red lacquered cuirass, imitation lamellae and laced tassels, bracket and socket for sashimono detatched, russet lacquered iron menpo with long hair moustache, throat defence matching shoulder guards, gold lacquered and laced sleeves, elbow defence and hand guards in russet iron and gold lacquered iron plates and thigh guards, the helmet with twenty-four plate iron bowel red lacquered and mounted with a seven stage tehen kandmono, the red lacquered peak secured by three chrysanthemums and two cherry rivets, parts associated
