SAFAVID IRAN, 16TH CENTURY
Gouache heightened with gold and silver on paper, Isfandiyar rides a horse while lassoing Gurgsar, an army of demons on the left side of a pale pink and blue landscape with small silver stream, seven knights face the demons, one of the horsemen carries a large orange standard which breaks into the margin, with gold sky, the text in four columns of black nasta'liq above and below the miniature, within gold and polychrome frame, mounted with another folio with 25ll. of black nasta'liq within gold and polychrome frame, divided in four columns with double-ruled intercolumnar division and small gold triangular panels, headings in white on gold illuminated panels, mounted, some scuffing, old damages and repairs in the margins
