The pair of saucers enamelled with a maiden dressed in a pink and white dress balancing a pail on her head as she climbs over a wooden fence, in the distance the facade of a small town, encircled at the rim by a gilt twisted-rope pattern border reserved with small vignettes, the reverse with erotic subject-matter, minute frit, some gilt rubbing, 11 cm. diam.; and a famille rose saucer enamelled with a mounted knight, within a gilt border, hairline crack, 13.1 cm. diam. It has been suggested that the subjectmatter of the pair of saucers is after a tale of de la Fontaine: La laitière et le pot au lait, although the exact source has not yet been identified, see F. and N. Hervouèt et Y. Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à Décor Occidental, Paris, 1986, p. 200, nr. 9.19.
