THREE JACOBITE ENGRAVED AIR-TWIST WINE-GLASSES
CIRCA 1750
The first with a bucket bowl engraved with a rose and bud, the second with round funnel bowl similarly engraved, the third with a bell bowl engraved with a fully blown rose and an opening bud, an oak leaf and the inscription Fiat, each supported on a double knopped stem filled with spiral threads on a conical foot

Lot Essay

The white rose symbolises the Old Pretender, King James the II, the bud represents Prince Charles (Bonnie Prince Charlie), and the oak leaf is in reference to Charles II's escape from the Roundheads after the battle of Worcester, by taking refuge in an oak tree.
