engraving, 1885, on Chine collé, signed in pencil, a very good impression, with wide margins, laid down onto board along the sheet edges, some stains, short tears and other, minor defects at the sheet edges, the subject in very good condition; together with a collection of prints after Liotard, by Gaillard, Houston, Hubert, McArdell, Reinsperger, three prints by Jean-Michel Liotard, and a small drawing, a portrait of Liotard, by an unknown hand.

Lot Essay

This engraving - described by Roethlisberger as grande et fine gravure - is one of many printed versions in various media of Liotard's pastel in the Kunstsammlungen at Dresden. La Chocolatière is possibly his most famous and certainly his most repoduced work.
