Lot Essay

Louis d'Orleans (1814-1896), duke of Nemours is the second son of Louis Philippe, King of France and Marie-Amelie de Bourbon. The present plates are part of a Royal commission for a service ordered on June 6, 1846. This order was partially completed and delivered in 1847. See Christie's, Paris, 21 June 2006, lot 50 for a detailed account of this order and for additional plates from this service.
