Date cyphers for 1884, gilt crowned globe and impressed uppercase marks, shape no. 1722, both signed L.(ouis) Solon
The cylindrical neck decorated in polychrome slip with the head and wings of a goddess reserved on a gilt mosaic ground, the reverse with a brazier flanked by hooded cobra, the strap loop handles with rosette terminals, each body finely painted and hand-tooled in white slip with a continuous view emblematic of 'The key to hearts' depicting maidens being accepted and rejected by putti enclosed in heart shaped cages, the lower body decorated with stylized lotus between classical bands, on a stepped circular foot

Solon's Illustrated Journal records the present pair as completed between the 11th of June and the 11th of July 1884. The margins note a combined minimum of 58 days of labor. Compare Christie's, New York, 21 October 2008, lot 11.
