AN EGYPTIAN FRAGMENTARY FAIENCE SHABTI FOR THE CHIEF SEAL-BEARER, PASHERENMUT
LATE PERIOD, DYNASTY XXVI, CIRCA 6TH CENTURY B.C.
Bearing four and a half lines of hieroglyphs from the Book of the Dead, with detailed seed bag over the shoulder, 4½ in. (10.3 cm.) high; and a group of Egyptian objects including a fragmentary bronze figure of Osiris; a headless bronze ibis, both circa 3rd-1st Century B.C.; a Coptic wood panel carved with fish swimming among lotus flowers, mounted, 18¼ in. (46.5 cm.) long; a Coptic wood bread stamp with signs for alpha and omega; a wood label; a painted wood bird; a hardstone heart scarab; and a bronze Ptolemaic coin, all probably circa 3rd Century B.C./5th Century A.D. Acquired by the present owner's parents in Egypt during the 1930s-1940s.
