Lot Essay

The authenticty of this work has kindly been confirmed by the Comité Masson.
This work is an early example from Masson's career, painted when the artist was just 27 years old. The scene from the woods at Clamart, outside of Paris, just predates the artist's first experimentations in Surrealism and automatic painting but nonetheless shows the seeds of Masson's love of movement and charged atmosphere that can be seen throughout his oeuvre.
