Lot Essay

Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, points out that both style and composition are very close to the early oeuvre of Jan Davidsz. de Heem; several objects reappear in de Heem's pictures.
The present artist seems to also have painted the upright still life in the Lazaro collection, Madrid (inv. no. 11297). The juxtaposition of the various objects is, except for the lobster and crab, almost identical.
