Michael Simonow comments on the present work: 'Ruszkowski's interest in representing water is well illustrated by this painting. Almost all the surface of the painting is taken by the sea. In the foreground the sandy bottom of the sea is shown through the bluish surface of the waves and gradually disappears in the distance. The figures and piece of land are introduced as a contrast to the colour of the sea' (See M. Simonow, Ruszkowski, A Catalogue Raisonné of his Paintings, London, 1987, p. 318).
