Lot Essay
As pointed out in Rotterdamse Meesters in de Gouden Eeuw, exhibition catalogue, Historisch Museum, Rotterdam, 1994, p.299, only a few signed works by the artist are known: Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam (Rotterdamse Meesters, etc., 1994, p.299, with ill.); Museum der Bildenden Künste, Leipzig and in the collection R.H. Ward, 1932 (recorded in the RKD). The artist seems to have been influenced by his father, Cornelis Snellinck, who was probably an immigrant from Antwerp. Compare with his landscape with a view of Castle Zuylen in the Historisch Museum, Rotterdam ( Rotterdamse Meesters, etc., 1994, p.225, n.47).
