The artist is unrecorded. C. Hofstede de Groot recorded a picture of a sleeping Venus with a Satyr, signed Ghert, present whereabouts unknown, at the collection of Baron Schonborn; Sale, G. Hol and Ph. van de Land, Amsterdam, 16 April 1738, lot 170, as Ghert.
