A view of De Hof in Amersfoort with cavalrymen and horses and wagons, the City Hall beyond

Six autograph versions of the present lot are recorded in the RKD, each slightly different in the staffage and in the view: Anon. Sale, Dorotheum Vienna, 10-18 September 1984, lot 564, with ill.; with B. Koetser, London, 1963; Anon. Sale, Christie's Amsterdam, 29 November 1988, lot 30, with ill.; National Gallery of Scotland; Anon. Sale, Phillips London, 5 December 1995, lot 34, with ill. and in the Flehite Museum, Amersfoort. The first two are signed and dated 1630, the latter two are signed and dated respectively 1637 and 1631. The present lot is therefore likely to have been executed in the 1630s.
