A PALMYRENE LIMESTONE HEAD OF A MAN
CIRCA MID 2ND CENTURY A.D.
From a funerary relief, the middle-aged man with a full head of thick wavy locks brushed forward, his facial hair composed of a beard and mustache of thin locks, and bushy protruding brows, with a small straight nose and wide almond-shaped eyes with contoured lids, the irises and pupils deeply incised, two deep curving grooves along his forehead, preserving portions of drapery along either side of his neck
