Lot Essay

For a pair of similar white-glazed doves, cf. D. Howard & J. Ayers, China for the West, p.586, pl.610. It is likely that the popularity and increased production of bird figures at Meissen during the 1740s-'50s, was the reason for the large export of similar models from China.
