LA FONTAINE, Jean de (1621-1695). Autograph document signed ('De la fontaine'), n.p. [Chateau Thierry], 6 October 1656, a receipt for a payment of 40 livres and 5 sous from Antoine le Giun as purchaser of 40 arpents of coppice wood from the bois de Barbillon in the year 1656, 'dont je promets luy faire tenir compte sur mes gages de lad[ite] année qui ont esté escheus au iour de Saint iean dernier par Le Sieur du Lin receveur general de madame la duchesse de Bouillon', 9 lines written in brown ink on one page, folio, contemporary endorsments on upper margin and verso, integral leaf removed.
In 1652 La Fontaine had purchased the position of maître particulier triennal des eaux et forêts at his birthplace in Chateau Thierry, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Both Antoine le Giun and the Sieur du Lin are named in other documents signed by La Fontaine. A later Duchess of Bouillon, Marie Anne Mancini, was to be an important patron of the poet's.
