In 1652 La Fontaine had purchased the position of maître particulier triennal des eaux et forêts at his birthplace in Chateau Thierry, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Both Antoine le Giun and the Sieur du Lin are named in other documents signed by La Fontaine. A later Duchess of Bouillon, Marie Anne Mancini, was to be an important patron of the poet's.
