2 volumes, 4° (335 x 255mm). With the half-titles. 62 numbered engraved plates and vignettes, 2 of the latter hand-coloured and one colour-printed. (Light spotting.) Contemporary grey-brown polished calf by Ph. Selenka with his ticket, sides panelled in blind and gilt, marbled edges (sides lightly scuffed).

FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN, published simultaneously with a French-language edition. Bröndsted explored Greece and Asia Minor with Haller van Hallerstein, Linckh and Stackelberg, excavating at Aegina with Robert Cockerell, and at Bassae with Foster. Part I mainly relates to the island of Cos, including descriptions of its modern inhabitants, and part II to various aspects of the Parthenon.
