FIRST EDITION, IN A HANDSOME BINDING. 'One of the most beautiful books produced about Greek Antiquity' (Cicognara). The work reports the impressively illustrated findings of the Society's second Ionian Mission, staffed in part by William Gell, Francis Bedford, and John Gandy. Pirates in the Aegean and plague in the towns of the Porte resulted in an increased focus on Attica. In this volume all the then known important ancient buildings in Attica outside of Athens are recorded with 'unprecedented attention to detail' (RIBA). One of only 200 copies printed.
