2° (534 x 385mm). With both cancel and cancelland of leaf 7. Engraved frontispiece, engraved title-vignette and head- and tailpieces, and 79 engraved plates, 27 of these coloured or part-coloured. (Variable spotting.) Contemporary olive-green morocco by Ph. Selenka, with his ticket, sides panelled in gilt and blind and with a wide gilt frame, salmon-pink endpapers, gilt edges (some spotting near the spine, small scuffs).

FIRST EDITION of Stackelberg's study of Greek tomb-reliefs and funerary objects. The contemporary hand-colouring of some of the plates reflects strong interest at the time in the use of colour in Greek art. 'These vases come from the collections of Bröndsted, Fauvel, Lusieri. MacMichael, Guilford, Haller von Hallerstein, Linckh, Foster, in fact persons with whom Stackelberg was in close contact while he was in Greece' (Blackmer). Blackmer 1594; Brunet V, 504.
