ROBERTSON, William (1770-1850). A Collection of Various Forms of Stoves, used for Forcing Pine Plants, Fruit Trees, and Preserving Tender Exotics. London: R. Ackermann, 1798.
4° (331 x 271mm). 24 coloured aquatints by H. Schutz after Robertson. (A few light small smudges.) Contemporary red roan-backed green paper boards, flat spine titled (light spotting, edges a little worn).
FIRST EDITION. Robertson, most likely the Irish architect of that name (see RIBA), devised these heated garden buildings with practical advice and tips for their erection. His plans show stoves for peach, pine and cherry trees, greenhouses and conservatories and a plan of a kitchen garden. At the end he alludes to his following work, Designs in Architecture, also on garden buildings, published in 1800. The present work was later re-issued, with imprint lines in the plates altered from 1798 to 1822. Abbey Life, 62; RIBA 2802 (c.1822 issue).
