Lot Essay

Flint executed the present watercolour on a sketching trip with his friend Adrian Bury, R.W.S. in March 1961. He liked to find interesting viewpoints from which to swiftly record everything he saw onto paper in his own unique and fresh technique. Of this scene he said that 'new or not, I liked the bit where the road turned a corner of Cheop's Pyramid. The variety of figures streaming past was perfectly delightful, all sorts with a vengeance. What a procession!' (see exhibition catalogue, loc. cit).
