Nicholas and Nathaniel Bacon, respectively high sheriffs of Suffolk and Norfolk, were the elder sons of Sir Nicholas Bacon, the former Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, and half-brothers of his youngest son, Francis Bacon, the Lord Chancellor and implacable rival of Coke. Nicholas had the distinction of being the recipient of the first baronetcy to be created, on 22 May 1611.
