(Some plates spotted or stained, first plate slightly frayed, pts 19/20 with two small wormholes running through. Pt 11 lacks front advertisement slip, pt 12 lacks 2p. rear ad for the Works of Charles Dickens, pt 15 lacks rear ad for the Working Man's Friend, pts 19/20 lack slip for the Writings of Douglas Jerrold.) Original blue-green pictorial wrappers after Browne (wrapper to pt. 1 torn and frayed with slight losses), green morocco-backed solander case. Provenance: G. FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL PARTS. Dickens's eighth and favourite novel recalled the London of his own youth, and portrayed his father in the feckless but irrepressible Mr. Micawber. It is one of the scarcer novels in parts, the original sales not exceeding 25,000 copies despite its later popularity.
