A FINE PERSIAN QAJAR KULAH-KHUD OF PRESENTATION QUALITY INSCRIBED WITH VERSES IN PRAISE OF THE KING (NASIR AL-DIN SHAH, R.1848-96)

With well-formed russet-iron skull decorated with a broad band of pricked gold koftgari arabesque scrollwork, a band of koftgari panels around the base filled with a series of verses in praise of both the helmet and the king, with nasal-bar, plume-holders and spike en suite, long camail of small iron rings, and in fine condition.

Lot Essay

The inscriptions compare closely with those on another Qajar helmet in The Museo di Palazzo Fortuny in Venice (Inv.N.158). The verses include a couplet naming Nasir al-Din Shah.
