Although an independent--formerly Hanseatic--city-state, Danzig existed under the Polish Crown and rightfully used the title of Royal City. Its Council therefore organized a great display of fireworks on 25th March 1691 to celebrate the wedding of JAKUB LUDWIK SOBIESKI (1667-1737), Crown Prince of Poland, and HEDWIG ELISABETH AMALIA (1673-1722), Countess of Bavaria Pfalz-Neuburg. Cf. Lotz p. 91.
