AN EXCEEDINGLY SCARCE WORK, valuable not only for the descriptions and illustrations of the set design itself, but for the entire theater. The present work records the tournament held in Ferrara for Cardinal NICOLò ACCIAIOLI (1630-1719), upon his appointment as legate in Ferrara on May 19, 1670, in order that he may see the strength of their horsemanship. "L'amor riformato" opened the festivities. MARCHESE PIO ENEA DEGLI OBIZZI II was a major promoter of theater and librettist. He built the Obizzi Theater, later the Teatro Nuovo, in Padua. The machines for this performance were designed by FRANCESCO BERNI to transport the cavaliere into Obizi's theater. "C'est peut-être le plus ancien monument que nous ayons en ce genre" (Filippi, Essai d'une bibliographie générale du théatre ou catalogue raisonné de la bibliothèque d'un amateur, Paris, 1864, no. 3). Not in any of the standard bibliographies.
