Graziani describes the elaborate festivities held on honor of the birth of FRANCESCO II D'ESTE (1660-1694), Duke of Modena. The pageant was arranged by the architects GIOVANNI GIACOMO MONTI and BALTHAZAR BIANCHI in exquisitely lavish style: represented in the plates are the combats of horsemen, rocks with cascades emerging from a pool, knights, ballets and huge infernal monsters, among other spectacles.
