Two parts in one volume, small 2o (295 x 202 mm). Engraved title, engraved plate of arms, and five folding plates after the designs of PAOLO AMATO (gutter and lower margins of frontispiece renewed, first plate with fold reinforced along verso and some associated discoloration on recto, a few other small tears reinforced on verso). Contemporary Italian limp vellum. Provenance: Bib. Dr. Alio (inkstamp on frontispiece and plate of arms).
An extensive and detailed account of the ceremonies, festivities and building with the decorations and apparati which were occasioned by the death of PHILLIP IV (1605-1665), King of Spain and the accession of CHARLES II (1661-1700). The designer of the "tempio" mausoleum and the decorations was Paolo Amato, the most celebrated Sicilian architect of the period (known also as the author of the Nuova prattica de prospettiva). The fine plates show the funeral procession, the interior, exterior, hangings and statues of the 'tempio,' and finally the catafalque. Not in any of the standard bibliographies.
