Le brûle-parfum en forme de coupe quadrangulaire reposant sur quatre pieds, deux personnages étrangers soutenant le réceptacle, vêtus d'un pagne plissé et d'une écharpe, parés de bijoux, d'un turban, le visage de type eurasien, marque à six characteres de l'Empereur Xuande à la base

Lot Essay

The faces of the figures with bulging eyes, hooked nose, thin lips and moustaches suggest that they were intended to portray foreigners from West of China's borders. Their clothes and jewels together with this specific turban encourage this feeling.
A comparable bronze censer with foreigners was sold in these Rooms, 11 June 2008, lot 243.
