Lot Essay

With a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1992 and its subsequent sale on November 18th of the same year and a soild 18k gold spare snap on back numbered 2923289 ref. 5040

To the best of our knowledge the present watch has never before been offered in public.

The 5040 was produced in two series. The reference number was introduced in 1992 with the first series bearing movement numbers beginning in 77. The present watch is amongst one of the earliest timepieces having been produced in 1992. The second series began in approximately 1998 with the movement numbers beginning with 312.

A similar model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches, by O. Patrizzi, Volume 2, p. 291, pl. 1196.
