(Some leaves with some browning and staining.) 18th-century mottled calf, spine gilt (spine worn). Provenance: I. Bermanni (early signature on title-page and one or two annotations to an illustration and text); W. Gedney Beatty (1869-1941), American architect (gifted to): The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Department of Prints (bookplate recording the bequest, cancelled).
A new typesetting, in italic, of the 1513 Giunta edition, edited by the Dominican friar Giovanni Giocondo of Verona (1435-1515), an important figure among early Renaissance antiquaries. Vitruvius's work is followed by Julius Frontinus' De aquaeductibus urbis Romae, "ouvrage d'une grande utiliti pour la connaissance de l'architecture ancienne" (Hoefer XVIII, 913).
