Lot Essay

Georg Moritz Lowitz (1722-1774) joined the Nuremberg firm of the Homann Heirs (designated Hom Hered on the maker's cartouche) in 1746 until 1757. In 1767 Moritz was killed by Cossacks while working as a surveyor for the Russian Service in the Volga region.
