Sale room notice
We are grateful to Harriet Hunter Smart of Katherine Ara Ltd. for drawing our attention to an article by J. van Damme, which identifies the clover leaf on the reverse of these panels as the mark of the Antwerp panel-maker Michiel Claessens (active c. 1590-1637). His mark also appears on the reverse of the Church Interior by Vrancx in the Musées royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, Brussels (inv. no. 4487). See J. van Damme, 'De Antwerpse tafereelmakers en hun merken: Identificatie en betekenis', Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen Jaarboek, 1990, pp. 200-5.
