Lot Essay

The oldest part of St. Bartholomew's in Yarnton, Oxfordshire dates back as far as 1100. The Spencer Family Memorial Chapel and tower were constructed in the early years of the 17th century by Sir Thomas Spencer of Yarnton. The present lot includes depictions of the tomb of Sir William Spencer of Yarnton, third son of Sir John Spencer of Althorpe, the tomb of Sir Thomas Spencer of Yarnton, 3rd Bt. (1639-1685), and a tablet dedicated to the memory of his daughter Viscountess Tiveot.
